Since 1960, the family business has been dedicated to the production, packing and transportation of quality produce.

In 1960 Mr. Lazo graduated as an Agricultural Engineer.  In 1961 he moved to Michoacán and bought his own land to grow cotton, cantaloupes, cucumbers, tomatoes and watermelons. He farmed this land until 1966.  From 1961-66, Mr. Lazo partnered with Othal Brand to export cantaloupes to the US.  In 1974 the operation expanded through El Baiio and started to grow cabbage, peaches, grapes, peppers and tomatillos.  Between 1976 and 1993 Mr. Lazo established a family business in Aguascalientes selling, distributing and exporting produce to the US.  A few years later, distribution hubs were opened in Chihuahua, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Monterrey and Merida.  In 1993, Gerardo, one of the four Lazo sons, was diagnosed with leukemia and the Lazo family had to relocate to Memphis, TN so he could receive treatment.  During the two years of Gerardo’s treatment, the senior Lazo realized he needed to have a business location within the United States and began researching the best markets for his business.  The Lazos traveled to Texas, California, Illinois, Florida and Georgia, finally settling on Atlanta as the best location.  "We found out Atlanta is one of the biggest cities with a growing Latin community, so we decided to start the business here,” Mr. Lazo has said.

In 1996 the Lazos moved to Atlanta and started a family-owned wholesale fresh fruit and vegetable business which is now a 2nd generation wholesaler operating in the Atlanta. We import from the fields and we work directly with growers and shippers, and sell to “Mom & Pop” grocers, grocery store chains, restaurants, wholesalers, food service, and larger retailers.  Our top priority is that all our customers get the finest quality produce, along with first-rate service.  Every day we commit ourselves to keeping the tradition of integrity, quality and trust that was initially established by Mr Lazo our growers and shippers, which we believe results in optimal returns. It is our full transparency and truth in numbers that helps raise trust and integrity with our growers, as well as our customers. Green Depot Food Service  is a company with an obsession for quality, honesty and trust, along with a desire to sell nothing but the best produce.
